About the Course
SUMMARY:
"Learning Experience Design is the process of deciding and designing what experience works better for someone to learn something."
In this international training course, participants will discover and experiment with Learning Experience Design (LXD), its approaches, methods, and tools, including the practical exercise of designing their own learning experience. LXD can be very useful for everyone designing and implementing training courses, workshops, and other learning experiences. During this training, there will be a strong focus on transferring the learnings to each participant's own reality and work.
OBJECTIVES:
The main objective of this training course is to develop competencies linked to the design of training programs, activities, and learning experiences in both non-formal and formal education. This includes reflecting on and experimenting with unconventional learning experiences using the tools and methods of LXD.There will be space to analyze how participants already work and explore ways to improve their practices and learn for the future.
METHODOLOGY:
The training course is based on the principles of Experiential Learning and Learning Experience Design, creating a challenging yet safe learning environment that participants can actively engage with. Participants' backgrounds and experiences will be core aspects of the training as we explore and adapt the learning and tools to individual needs. The training will include discussions, interactive activities, group and pair work, presentations, case studies, individual activities, and reflection. In groups, participants will design their own learning experience based on LXD.Many activities will take place outdoors, leveraging the local context as a resource for learning.
PROGRAMME DAY-BY-DAY:
DAY 1
The first day focuses on discovering the group and the training course. A key element of a Learning Experience is the group’s needs, dynamics, and the learning space we create together. We will aim to build a challenging, democratic, and secure learning space. In the second half of the day, we will start exploring LXD, its meaning, and general principles.
DAY 2
The second day will be entirely focused on LXD. We will dive deep into exploring the key principles of Learning Experience Design, using practical exercises to fully grasp them while starting to reflect on how they can be applied to our local contexts.
DAY 3
The third day will take the experience of LXD one step further as we see it in practice by experimenting with a short learning experience designed using LXD. This activity will serve as a starting point for further reflection and discussion on the challenges of implementing LXD activities.Guest speakers will present how they design their activities using LXD.
DAY 4
The fourth day introduces participants to the LXD Challenge. They will go through a full-day simulation exercise, working in small groups to design a learning experience. Various steps, resources, and exercises will support and guide them through the challenge.
DAY 5
The fifth day concludes the LXD Challenge as participants try out their designed learning experiences. The group will reflect on and learn from both the process and the end result, using feedback, reflection, and iteration as key tools. Finally, we will explore what and how participants can adapt from the challenge to their own contexts.
DAY 6
The sixth day will continue focusing on how participants can apply LXD in their work and contexts. This will allow them to fine-tune their learnings and tools to better meet their own needs while defining their next steps. The course will conclude with a final evaluation and farewell.
Training usually takes place between
a) 8:30 - 13:30, or
b) 9:30 - 13:00 | 14:30-16:00
Followed by after-class activities, that are optional.
* Changes to the program may occur to better address participants' needs.
